Are religious conservatives complacent about poverty and hunger?

According to Jim Wallis of Sojourners, in a Washington Post article today, conservative religious leaders "have agreed to support cutting food stamps for poor people if Republicans support them on judicial nominees.... They are trading the lives of poor people for their agenda. They're being, and this is the worst insult, unbiblical."

Oh don't get me started. Jim Wallis is right. There seems to be a great deal of passion for some when it concerns poverty and justice in every country but our own. Hunger and food justice issues are big for us--I just returned from receiving a much needed donation of root vegetables from one or our local farmers because the demand for food is HUGE right now. People--children--are going hungry and how some can turn their backs on them in order to curry favor with conservatives politicians is beyond me.

Ah, I've said to much, but...let's just name this for the scandal it is. If we put as much energy and money into righting government to stand by the least in our society, as is spent on other issues--we might actually be able to solve this very solvable problem of hunger in America.
